High School Grenoble

Nestled at the foot of the French Alpes on the banks of the Isere and Drac rivers, Grenoble in South Eastern France is a city steeped in Savoie tradition. Heralded as the capital of the Alpes it is an important research technology and innovation centre with 1 in every 5 inhabitants working in this domain.
The architecture is distinct, ordered and grand yet humble in its mountain setting.
There are numerous restoration projects around the city but this one caught my eye while on holiday in August 2018. A restoration and extension to an existing school the photograph shows a new centrepiece refectory building to the courtyard. Although the school yard has been occupied the scale form and materials of the new addition manage to embue rather than detract from the composition. No doubt greatly need additional space …and so striking.
